Photomonth in Krakow 2008: "Youth"
call for submissions for the Main Programme

In May 2008 we will launch the sixth edition of the Photomonth in Krakow - one of the most important photography festivals in Poland which gradually gains recognition all over the world. For the first time the organizers of the festival announce the possibility of applying for participation in the Main Programme of the festival. The offer is directed not only to curators, but also to galleries and photographers themselves.

The Main Programme traditionally consists of around fourteen individual exhibition choosen by the Festival Programme Comitee (Karol Hordziej, Piotr Lelek, Andrzej Kramarz, Łukasz Trzciński, Wojtek Nowicki, Mark Power and Michael Famighetti). Each year among the invited photographers are world wide known celebrities of photography scene (such as Martin Parr, Anders Petersen, Nobuyoshi Araki, Luc Delahaye, Michael Ackerman), as well as young emerging artists (Jacob Aue Sobol, Aneta Grzeszykowska, Christian Wolter, Przemek Pokrycki).

The subject of the forthcoming edition of the festival is "youth".

The intention of the organizers is to present a set of individual exhibition related mainly to actual phenomena which are connected with the notion of youth. In the last few years a man"s active and creative life has been reduced to this relatively short passage. In the meantime, the very meaning of "youth" has changed, and the impact of medicine and science, aiming at prolonging human life to a maximum, present youth in a completely different light. One cannot deny that at present one can talk about both the "second youth" of elderly people, and about the lack of happy youth in difficult or pathological milieu. Youth is by all means not only a term related to a period of human life. We are also interested in other processes that can be characterised by this term - for example the phenomenon connected with the dynamic growth of developing countries.

The organizers of the festival are open to varied interpretations of the subject and appreciate not only photo presentations but also works which intersect different medias, such as video art. Extraordinary and daring expressions are most welcome.
